Mythic Ula'tek Takes Another Nerf
Two nerf passes in as many days, and the race is still going. Mythic Ula'tek has now taken hotfixes on both 1 and 2 September, and the target both times was the same thing: the Phase 2 tether snap.
As of the latest report, Echo leads at 60.8% and Liquid sits at 74.6%, with 200-plus pulls on the boss and boss health still looking stubbornly high for that much practice.
The changes
Blight Vein damage reduced by 25.7%. Soul Constrictor duration reduced to 5 seconds, down from 6, on Mythic difficulty.
On top of that, two bug fixes that matter as much as the tuning: a Doomscale Egg could still be picked up after the Ravenous Doomscale spawned while the Doomscale Warden was alive, and Blizzard has added further protections against triggering a pickup multiple times from a single egg. Getting stacked debuffs off one egg should now be far rarer.
Why the second was the important one
The one-second cut to Soul Constrictor looks trivial written down. It is not.
Snapping a 4-set of tethers previously dealt around 1.2 million damage every 2 seconds for 6 seconds. With the shorter duration that comes down to roughly 900,000 per tick. Still enormous — but health pools sit around the 850,000 to 900,000 mark, which means the difference is the gap between a guaranteed death and a survivable hit with cooldowns.
Phase 2 should be considerably more consistent as a result, which is what these guilds actually needed. Consistency, not a lower total.
What it means for everyone else
Race nerfs are not aimed at you, but they land on you anyway, and the pattern is reliable: the pass that turns a boss from race-only into achievable normally comes after the first kill rather than before it.
So if Ula'tek is on your Mythic list, the sensible read is that this fight gets meaningfully easier once the race ends. In the meantime the egg fixes and the tether change apply to your pulls too, and both are pure upside.
The bosses in front of her are the better use of a raid night until then.
