Temple of Sethraliss: Soak the Green Orbs or Your Key Is Over
Temple of Sethraliss is back in the Mythic+ rotation, and if you remember it from Battle for Azeroth, be careful — it has been revamped, and the mechanics have changed enough to catch people out.
There is one in particular that ends runs outright. The final boss, the Avatar of Sethraliss, has a soak mechanic that will wipe your group if it is handled badly, and it is not optional.
The green orbs
During phase one, a Corrupted Guardian spawns and needs killing. When it dies, it casts Unstable Corruption, which puts down a large purple circle you need to run out of.
Once that cast finishes, three green orbs spawn where the Guardian was standing. Those orbs are the mechanic.
Soaking them heals the Avatar, which sounds like a reason not to — but the alternative is far worse. If they are not soaked in time, you get a Corruption Burst: the orbs detonate for heavy damage, and the burst also causes players to take 100% increased damage from that ability. Let more than one go off and the damage is simply unsurvivable.
So a small heal on the boss is the correct trade, every time.
Soaking is not free. Each orb applies a stack of Corruption, a 15-second damage-over-time effect that also increases the Physical damage you take by 250% and reduces your healing done by 33%.
A 250% Physical damage increase on a tank in a Mythic+ key is a death sentence waiting for the next melee swing. And a healer at 33% reduced healing during a phase where the group is taking damage is not much better.
Neither should touch an orb unless there is genuinely no alternative — a dead DPS, a disconnect, something that leaves you short. The rest of the time, this belongs to the damage dealers.
The simple rule
Three orbs, three damage dealers, one orb each. That spreads the Corruption debuff evenly, keeps the tank and healer clean, and means nobody is carrying two stacks of a 250% Physical damage amplifier.
Call it before the pull. This is the kind of mechanic where the wipe happens because three people all assumed someone else had it, not because anyone played badly.
Sethraliss is one of eight dungeons in the Season 2 pool, and the revamp means old muscle memory is actively working against you in a few places. Worth a clean run at a low key before you take it seriously.
